Other Deed Poll FAQs
Who can witness me signing my Deed Poll?
Your witness can be anyone over the age of 18 and independent (not a relative or partner and does not live at the same address as you) of you.
Which organisations accept Deed Polls issued by you?
Everyone! All UK government departments, companies and organisations accept Deed Polls issued by us so you will be able to have all your documents and records amended or reissued to show your new name.
Will my credit history be affected by my name change?
Your credit history will not be affected because on an application for credit there will be a section asking if you have ever been known by another name. By entering your former name into this section, the organisation considering you for credit can check your complete credit history. Furthermore, when you inform your bank of your change of name, they will in turn notify the Credit Reference Agencies to which they subscribe.
Where can i get a copy of my Deed Poll if I have lost the original?
If you ordered our Certified Copies and Archive Service at the same time as your Deed Poll, you can continue to use the copies to provide documentary evidence of your change of name. You can also order further copies of your Deed Poll from our archive. For more information on retrieving a Deed Poll, please visit our Existing Client Services section. If you did not order our Certified Copies and Archive service, your only option is to apply for a replacement Deed Poll which you will have to pay full price for.
I want to revert to my maiden name. Do i need a Deed Poll to do this?
If you wish to revert back to your maiden name either during the course of your marriage or before you receive your decree absolute, you will need a Deed Poll. If, however, you already have your decree absolute, you can use this change back to your maiden name.
I want to revert to the name i was using before i formed a civil partnership. Will a Deed Poll be required to do this?
If you wish to revert back to the name you used before your civil partnership either during the course of the partnership or before you receive your Civil Partnership Dissolution Certificate, you will need to execute (sign) and Deed Poll. If, however, you already have your Civil Partnership Dissolution Certificate, you can use it to revert to your previous name.
