Do I need A Deed Poll To Revert To A Former Name?

Whenever you change your legal name whether it be to a new name or reverting to an old name, you must provide documentary evidence of the change.

For example, when a woman wishes to revert to the name she had before marriage (her maiden name), she must provide her decree absolute (divorce) certificate to prove that she is no longer using her married name.

The same applies to those that have changed their name by Deed Poll in the past and would now like to revert to a former name. Therefore, in order to make the change official, you will need to apply for another Deed Poll.

If you would like more information on reverting to a former name, please call our helpline on 0800 781 6359 and a member of staff will be happy to discuss the options available to you.
