What Do I Do Once I Have Received My Deed Poll Document?
You should follow the below steps once you have your Deed Poll document:
- Check that the details on your document are correct (old name, new name, address, etc).
- Find a suitable person that can witness you executing your Deed Poll and take the document to them along with a high quality blue or black pen (we recommend some sort of ball point pen).
- Once you are in the presents of your witness, you must first complete the date section of your Deed Poll document. For information on how to date your Deed Poll correctly, please see the help section below.
- After dating the Deed Poll, you must sign the document in both your old and new names.
- Once you have signed the appropriate parts, the witness must complete the "witness" section with their full name, address, occupation and signature.
You have now correctly executed your Deed Poll and can start using the document to have your records changed to show your new name.
Dating Your Deed Poll Document
The date section on your Deed Poll has spaces for you to fill in the day, month and year. To start with, the text will read: DATED THIS DAY OF IN THE YEAR but will have spaces for you to enter the information mentioned above.
Once you have correctly dated the document, it should read like this:
DATED THIS 24th DAY OF JANUARY IN THE YEAR 2008
(text in bold is the information you must complete).
If you have difficulty in completing any part of your Deed Poll, please call our helpline on 0800 781 6359 and a member of our staff will be happy to walk you through the process.
