Are Deed Polls Recorded Anywhere?

Contrary to popular belief Deed Polls are not registered anywhere unless they have been enrolled in the Close Rolls of the Chancery (from 1851 to 1902) or in the Enrolment Books of the Supreme Court of Justicature (from 1903 onwards).

Your are not legally required to have your Deed Poll enrolled and there is no real benefit in doing so other than to provide a public record of your name change. Since 1914 details of enrolled Deed Polls have been published in either the London or Belfast Gazette including the persons name change details and home address.

As it is not a legal requirement that you have your Deed Poll enrolled in the Supreme Court of Judicature and the cost of doing so is quite significant, very few Deed Polls issued by us actually end up being enrolled.
